Mindset Makeover: Your Path to Success

Its your attitude

In my leadership journey I have had the ability to hire, coach, and mentor some amazing leaders. There have some great gifted and talented people I have had on my team that could not deliver results due to their mental programming.

Over the course of my career I deal with people that often need a complete mental overhaul. Often it was not their competence that was holding them back but their attitude. Everything in life starts with your attitude. Your attitude is a way of thinking, so in order to change your attitude you have to change the way you think.

Your attitude defines your individuality.

You are not just what you wear, where you live, the school you went to, or your family background. You are who you are by the actions you taken up to this point in life. You are your choices.

We are all who we are based on the choices we have made. Now we did not arrive where we are just by our choices. Those choices made were derived from the dominating thoughts in our mind. One truth we must all adopt is that as we think so we are. In simple terms we are what we think.

Attitude influences your experiences

When I started my leadership journey I knew in my mind that my current level would not be the level I would stay at. On the inside I was a completely different person than the current position I held. Over time my inner reality began to transition to my outer reality. I began to learn that sooner than later the belief I have on the inside manifest into my reality on the outside.

All of us have an overall thinking pattern. Depending on that thinking pattern it will have these 4 effects on your life.

  1. Attitude is the driving force behind your belief in your capacity to achieve success.

  2. Your attitude dictates your response to challenges.

  3. Your attitude is crucial for building confidence.

  4. Attitude shapes how you interpret and seize opportunities.

Your attitude affects a lot of things in your life and has the power to alter your life. Learning to alter your attitude then is a key skillset if you desire progress in life.

Forming the right attitudes

Forming the correct attitudes begins with changing your inputs. Your mindset is shaped by what goes into it. To begin to build a new mindset we must begin renewing our mind daily with the right inputs.

Once the right information begins forming we will have more of the right inputs to make better choices from. Our attitude begins to be shaped as we make more positive choices in choosing the attitude state to be in. One of the easiest ways to begin to change your attitude is to build an affirmation that hold true for you.

Example would be: I am growing and getting better and better everyday. I am acting towards my goals today. I am overcome the challenges that are before me. The point here is to find something that resonates with you.

The last part of forming the right attitudes begins with consistency in reinforcing the attitudes you want adopt as your own. Changing your attitude is of course possible but it is challenging. You must decide each day to make a decision to not only change but act on that change daily.

That decision follows this principle of sowing and reaping:

  • Sow right input = reap right thoughts

  • Sow right thoughts = reap right actions

  • Sow right actions = reap right habits

  • Sow right habits = reap right character

  • Sow right character = reap right life

In my leadership journey, I've learned that our attitude plays a huge role in how our life turns out. It's not just about how we look or where we come from—it's about the choices we make. Our thoughts shape these choices and, in turn, our life.

I've seen how having a positive attitude can make a big difference. Believing in myself and staying positive helped me achieve things I once thought were impossible. Attitude affects how we see success, face challenges, build confidence, and spot opportunities.

Changing our attitude starts with what we put into our minds. By feeding our thoughts with good, positive things every day, we can start thinking differently. It's like planting seeds: good thoughts grow into good actions, habits, character, and eventually, a good life.

Changing our attitude isn't easy, but it's possible. It takes making a choice every day to think and act differently. It's a journey of small steps that lead to big changes in our lives.
